Medals of the Month - November 2021

Able Seaman T.W. Storey was a sailor in the NSW Colonial Navy at the time of the Boxer Rebellion in China. Embarking at Sydney on 8th August 1900, Able Seaman Storey served in China as part of the NSW Naval Contingent and arrived back in Sydney on 25th April 1901.

The NSW Government sent separate Naval and Army contingents to help put down the Boxer Rebellion and to suppress the Boxer attack on diplomatic legations in Pekin (Beijing).

Because of the NSW Government's commitment of troops to the Boer War in South Africa, the Army's contribution in China was only a light infantry company. Victoria also sent forces to China as did Britain, France, Italy, Japan, Germany and The United States of America.
